Artificial Inteligence (AI) & Fake Content. New Scams You Need to Know
What is it?
Artificial Intelligence (AI) can now create fake voices, videos, and text that look and sound real. Criminals use these tools to make scams harder to detect.
Examples of AI Scams:
Deepfake Voices: A scammer uses AI to copy your child’s voice, saying “Mom, I’m in trouble.”
Fake Videos: AI-generated videos of celebrities promoting investment scams.
Fake Emails or Letters: AI writes convincing emails from your “bank” or “doctor.”
Why does it work?
Because it looks and sounds real - even family voices can be faked.
Real Example:
In the U.S., parents got a call with their daughter’s exact voice asking for ransom money. It was AI-generated.
How to Prevent It:
If you get a strange call from “family,” ask a question only they would know.
Set a family code word (e.g., “sunflower”) to confirm identity in emergencies.
Be suspicious of online videos promoting quick money.
Don’t share too much personal info on social media - scammers use it for AI fakes.
Tip: The best defence against AI scams is slowing down. Always double-check before acting, no matter how real it seems.
Remember:
“Scammers win when you act fast. You win when you pause and check. Always take your time - and if you’re unsure, talk to someone you trust before making a decision.”
